Like me, my dad's choice of dessert is always anything revolving around toffee, caramel or treacle. (And the occasional bit of chocolate). And seeing as it was Father's Day yesterday my sister and I decided to demonstrate what wonderful daughters we are and make him his favourite dessert - Treacle Tart.
Treacle tart is relatively simple to make, and we chose to use Tamsin Day-Lewis' recipe, as according to our mum, this one is the best.
What you need:
- 900g golden syrup
- 30g butter
- 1 large egg
- 2-3 tbsp double cream
- grated zest of 2 lemons
- 4 heaped tbsps breadcrumbs
What to do:
1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees
2. I'm fairly sure you can buy breadcrumbs in the supermarket but we put some bread into the magi mix to make ours which didn't take long at all
3. If you are especially keen to make your own pastry then I would suggest doing that now, however we couldn't be bothered to make our own so we cheated and bought the Jus-Rol Sweet Shortcrust pastry - far simpler, and then rolled it out to fit the individual pastry cases.
4. Heat the golden syrup and then melt the butter into it
5. Beat together the egg and double cream
6. Grate the lemon zest and then add all the ingredients together including the breadcrumbs
7. By now the pastry should be cooked, (blind bake for 15, remove baking beans and cook for 5 more minutes)

9. Eat!!
This is not exactly the healthiest choice of dessert but treacle tart is delicious, and since when should dessert ever be healthy.
